My friend Josh started a bagel company bringing his love for NY bagels to Denver. Then he made little bagel bites (still working on a name), stuffed them with scallion cream cheese and bacon, doused them with everything seed mixture, and served them to us warm out of the oven. CRAZY good. Look for Rosenberg’s Bagels at Gather in the Galvanize building on Delaware. And get there early, these doughy delights sell out fast!

Artist Hong Yi Plays with her Food for 30 Days

For almost every day last month Malaysian artist/architect Hong Yi (who often goes by the nickname Red) created a fun illustration made with common (and occasionally not so common) food. Her parameters were simple: the image had to be comprised entirely of food and the only backdrop could be a white plate. With that in mind Yi set out to create landscapes, animals, homages to pop culture, and even a multi-frame telling of the three little pigs. The project, which still appears to be ongoing, has been documented heavily around the web, but if you haven’t seen it all head over to her Facebook and read an interview on designboom. Photos will also be appearing on her Instagram at @redhongyi.

Can’t believe in the craziness of the last few weeks I forgot to post my first foodie pen pals package! My amazing post-run lunch celebration on Sunday at Percy Street BBQ. There was a faint smell of grill in the air after the race (probably from Citizens Bank Park) and I had to have a burger. I don’t eat a ton of red meat but this was one of those plates (or basket in this case) that was totally worth it: ground brisket burger with cheddar, onions, pickles and BBQ sauce, a side of potato salad and a big glass of sweet tea. We all also shared the pinto beans with burnt brisket ends and had appetizers of macaroni and cheese and turkey tails. It was all so so good and I savored every single bite.

Today was an amazing race day. The Broad Street Run is an incredible 40,000 person 10-miler that takes runners through Philadelphia straight down Broad Street. A few weeks ago an article was circulating about how amazing race spectators are— which was proven again this morning. On a surprisingly chilly and overcast morning, spectators came out, slowly at first and then as the sun burst forth so did they. They were on the front steps of their homes, in front of their churches, drinking margaritas and giving high fives. I even saw a patient right inside the front door of a hospital holding a big cheer sign. They were playing music and giving cheers and smiles, encouraging everyone to just push a little harder. And they were cheering for Philadelphia. For this amazing city that put 40,000 people on the street today, unafraid and decked in red socks, singing along to Sweet Caroline at the starting line. Each runner received this sticker (above) to wear over our hearts. I wore it with pride, carrying Boston and all the other emotional elements that come with a race like this right in my heart. Seeing the other purple Team in Training shirts, the bibs for the Boston fund, and the memory ribbons from the American Cancer Society were motivators as I continued to push harder. And the hard work paid off— earning myself a PR, great runners high, and an absolutely fantastic day. Congratulations Broad Street Runners!
