Parc a la evening
Last Sunday evening the weather was gorgeous and the cafes around Rittenhouse Square were bustling. Slip and I stopped into Parc on our way home to grab a quick snack (/dinner). We sat outside, watching people dogwalking in the park and passerbys on the street, and shared the salad Frissee Lardons and spinach ravioli (with an amazing tomato sauce). Delish! Pardon the bad lighting. Daylight...

Has anyone tried a pure barre or similar class? It was well written about in Philadelphia magazine and I’m thinking of trying one of the classes nearby, at Fit or Urban Front Pilates. They are kind of pricey classes but are supposed to deliver excellent results, and be fun, too. Any opinions?

Heath Bar Cookies
Saturday I wanted to make something sweet for my sweetie and Naomi sent along this recipe to use up the extra heath bars I had from Caramel Toffee Fruit Dip. The cookies are a perfect mix of sweet and salty, and bake so nicely with crisp edges and chewy centers. Thanks, Naomi! Heath Bar Cookies 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 1 cup unsalted butter, softened ...

Home Cook Superstar: Cobbler’s Breakfast: The... →
homecooksuperstar: Still catching up on sleep from my birthday weekend (note to self: I’m too old for multiple nights of celebrating) and events every night this week, has led me to channel my inner college student by staying out too late and sleeping in. Yesterday, after waking up promptly at 11 AM, I was… How good does this look?! Breakfast sandwiches are one of my favorite things....

Kenzoil →
Kenzoil is my favorite new thing I picked up in the farmers market in Ann Arbor (it is so good that I even checked a bag so I could bring it home). It is this amazing olive oil blended with basil and other spices. I know there are fancy olive oils in shops everywhere but this one is special— the smell is intoxicating and it is delicious on lots of treats! The smell of it on the little...

Zingerman's
There is nothing like a good delicatessen, and because both of my parents grew up in Detroit I know there is a lot of good deli in Michigan. Well, I’ve never been to Zingerman’s Deli before last weekend, but it is an institution in Ann Arbor and fortunately many of Jessie’s friends told her it was not to be missed. Unfortunately, a lot of people in Ann Arbor for the weekend to...

Valanni
One of my absolute favorite things about Philadelphia is that there is always another great restaurant right around the corner. Only downside? It’s always hard to pick a place when I’m going out to eat! When restaurant week rolled around last month I was faced with the same problem— there are so many fantastic places to choose from and I usually only go out for one night of RW. I...

Apple Dip
Not only did I go apple picking last weekend but I also have been on an pumpkin kick, so what does that add up to? Pumpkin Pie dip for apple slices, along with some caramel toffee dip. I have been seeing recipes for similar things all over food blogs lately and I had to try this super easy sweet treat for myself (and my classmates who got to indulge, too!) Caramel Toffee Fruit Dip 1 8oz....

Pasta with Hearty Homemade Ragu
A great dinner during these crisp fall nights is a hearty ragu over any pasta of your choice. It’s pretty easy to make, makes your kitchen smell delicious, and is pretty tasty, too. I made this with lean ground beef, but you can make it with buffalo meat or Morning Star Farms faux meat, too, whatever your preference. Also, add in any ingredients that come to mind to spice things up! To...

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins
Last weekend when I woke up early I had all the ingredients in my pantry so I decided to make mini pumpkin chocolate chip muffins. (Sorry to Carys’ mom that it has taken me a few days to post this!) These muffins are easy, fast, and if you stock pumpkin during the fall then you probably already have everything you need. Note: This recipe is for regular sized muffins— I halved the...

Happy Birthday Rachy!
In NYC to celebrate Rachel’s birthday on this beautiful day, and guess what we’re doing? Going apple picking! We’re going to Wilkens Farm in Yorktown Heights (or “the country” as many city folk might call it). It looks like just the perfect day outside to go, too. And before we catch metro north we’re going to my favorite place, Zabars!

Sweet Potato Chips
Such an easy and delicious snack! And perfect on crisp days like the ones we’ve been having in Philadelphia this week. Start by peeling your sweet potatoes (I used 2 mediums and it made plenty for Slip and I to share) and slicing them up pretty thin. Preheat your oven to about 400. Cover a cookie sheet in tin foil and place sweet potatoes on top in a single layer (might take more than one...

All you have to do is suggest a charity and vote. Her goal is to raise $4000 for the winning project, as well as design a brand-new cupcake recipe. Sounds good to me!
